NAFTD / NFA Training Endorsement Committee

1. Overview of the NAFTD-NFA Course Endorsement program, presented by NAFTD President, Steve Edwards.

2. Endorsement Process

  • Peer review by State systems
  • NFA review
  • Program implementation and use / documentation / follow on / State to State

3. Review of NFA Program Notice dated July 20, 2000 State Fire Training Course Endorsement.

4. Advantages of program: efficient use of federal funding by state programs / adds existing courses to system / quicker course development

5. Metros may use courses by working through respective State system

6. Courses submitted by states were divided into three areas:

  • Instructor
  • Fire Officer
  • Technical

7. Evaluation points reviewed

8. Committee divided submitted courses into groups and reviewed material

  • Worksheet completed on each submission
  • Each worksheet and submission was reviewed twice to ensure completion of review process and documentation

9. NAFTD Course Endorsement Committee received 12 courses from California day after committee meeting. Per review by Mr. Gary Wilson, Missouri Fire and Rescue Institute, the 12 California courses met the Evaluation points. Steve Edwards, NAFTD concurred with Mr. Wilson and Mr. Wisby that the California courses be accepted into system.

10. Summary of Evaluation:

  • 32 courses approved
  • 4 courses did not meet evaluation points

12. Each course endorsement is good for five years. Courses will require review and update to meet any new standards.
